Our success is built upon the friendly greeting, enthusiasm and attitude of our baristas. People are not just buying a cup of coffee. They are purchasing an experience of being cared for, that includes coffee. Our baristas are the best in the coffee business and our shop is frequented because of the genuine people serving them. Coffee is a part of many people’s lives and daily routines. They meet and talk about the day. They do business and personal communications over a simple cup of coffee. It is our goal to provide them with the best coffee experience so they may want to return again and again. In Italy, the barista is the operator of an espresso bar and is the master of his or her craft. They are highly trained in the art of making espresso, bar efficiency and showmanship. At Starry Sky, our baristas are at the heart of who we are as a company. We are only as good as the last cup of espresso or drip coffee we have made. Therefore, we are very serious about technical proficiency and adherence to our systems, policies, and procedures. Make it your goal to provide the best coffee experience. That means making great consistent coffee drinks and creating an environment where great coffee can be enjoyed, whether the customer is sitting down or grabbing a quick cup of coffee before going to work or class. |

Coffee originated in Ethiopia where it still grows wild today. It is believed that shortly after its discovery, the coffee seeds were brought to the Arabian Peninsula to what is today the country of Yemen. The first true cultivation of coffee began in the seventh century. Coffee is the seed of a berry from a tree that is grown in a sub-tropical belt around the world. The two species of coffee are Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is the far superior bean which is grown above 3,000 feet in elevation and produces a greater flavor with more aroma. Coffees from the same growing region may have similar characteristics. However, there are many nuances between each varietal that can be distinguished. Different growing regions produce distinctly different coffees. Once our roaster receives the green coffee from the world’s growing regions, it roasts each varietal independently in small roast cycles. This hand crafted method insures the optimum flavor, characteristics of each varietal is produced. It is during the roasting process that the sugars, starches, and fats within the coffee bean are emulsified, caramelized, and released, creating the fragile coffee oil. This oil is the substance that gives coffee its flavor and aroma. Blending varietals occurs after the roasting has been done ensuring a superior flavor with good complexity. Many “Old World” recipes and roasting methods go into each and every coffee we produce. Understanding those differences and tasting them is a wonderful adventure for our customers. |
